Dear Southshire Community Resident:
Something exciting is afoot in Bennington, and we thought you might be interested in learning about it. A group has been formed and has brought community-owned solar power to Bennington—we have built a large solar array in which we own proportional shares and we have formed a not-for-profit limited liability corporation (LLC) to manage the enterprise. The power generated by the solar array is fed into the Green Mountain Power (GMP) system, and our homes' (or businesses' or organizations') meters are credited for each member's proportional amount.
If we calculate our usage correctly, our electricity bills will be balanced by the credits—after 10 years, our initial outlay is recouped, and from that point on, as the array continues to produce power, we will (in effect) have free electricity, with only minor annual shared expenses to maintain the array and run the LLC.
All in all, we believe this to be a fiscally sound project, an environmentally beneficial one, and a means of building more community here in Bennington County and any property serviced by GMP—a win/win/win proposition. If this sounds interesting to you, please read our FAQ document, view our progress to date, and review the information within our website.
Intrigued? Contact the folks at Power Guru <mailto:[email protected]> for the next steps, or you can reach out to any of the local community members listed on our Contacts page whom you may already know: all will be more than happy to assist you.
