Who we are:
Southshire Community Solar is a group of local residents, organizations and businesses that has successfully brought community-owned solar power to Bennington County.
We have formed an LLC to manage the enterprise. Each participating membership becomes a voting member of the corporation. Our 30 current members own proportional shares, typically based on their current power usage. A member can be any individual, household, organization or a business served by Green Mountain Power — that's nearly every address in the southern two-thirds of Vermont.
We are working with Power Guru Solar Electric Systems of North Bennington, Vermont. Power Guru is a locally owned company which hires 100% local labor to do ground preparation, designs, procurement, and installation and maintenance. Power Guru also builds with all-American components whenever possible and locally sourced steel products comprising the mounts. For these reasons Southshire Community Solar chose to work with Power Guru.
All in all, it is a fiscally sound project, an environmentally beneficial one, and a means of building more community here in Bennington County and the general Southshire area (including almost every address in the southern two-thirds of Vermont) — a win/win/win proposition.
